How to make the best SeaMoss Gel

SeaMoss gel is a nutrient-dense superfood, rich in minerals like iodine, magnesium, and potassium. Making it at home ensures freshness and allows you to customize it to your taste. With our SeaMoss Gel D.I.Y Kits, the process is as straightforward as it is rewarding.

What You'll Need

  • 1.5 oz of dried Sea Moss

  • Filtered or spring water

  • Optional: Fresh limes and a cinnamon stick for added cleaning and to neutralize the ocean scent/taste.

  • High-speed blender

  • Glass jar or silicone ice cube trays

Making SeaMoss gel is easy as it takes three easy steps: Wash, Soak, Blend. Here we will share how to make the best SeaMoss gel with bonus tips at the end.

1) Rinse Sea Moss thoroughly with cool spring water and massage gently to remove any ocean content. Drain & repeat 2 or 3 more times or until water runs clear.

2) In a large container, add cleaned Sea Moss, freshly cut limes and a whole cinnamon stick as well as spring water. Ensure the water covers the moss completely, as it will expand 2-3 times when rehydrated. Adding cinnamon sticks and fresh limes while soaking helps to reduce the ocean smell and taste.

3) Cover and let the Sea Moss rehydrate for 24 hours at room temperature.

4) Drain water, rinse well, then transfer the rehydrated SeaMoss to your high-speed blender.

5) Add spring water (or infused liquid, if desired) to your blender cup. Fill liquid to about an inch over your Sea Moss.

6) Blend until smooth and creamy. For a thinner consistency, add more water - a little at a time. Pour Sea Moss into clean glass jar and place in fridge to gel. Use within 4-6 weeks.

***Bonus Tips***

SOAKING

When soaking your dried SeaMoss, always use a glass or stainless steel bowl with plenty of room for the moss to expand. Avoid plastic containers, which may leach chemicals when soaking for long periods. A non-reactive bowl ensures your gel stays clean, safe, and toxin-free.

STORAGE

  • Refrigerator: Store your gel in a clean, airtight glass container for 4-6 weeks. Keep the jar at the back of the fridge where it’s coldest, this helps the gel last longer and stay fresher.

  • Freezer: Pour the sea moss gel into silicone ice cube trays and freeze for 4–6 hours or until solid. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to an airtight freezer-safe container. This method preserves the gel for up to 6 months, offering convenient, single-serving portions for smoothies, teas, and more.

HOW TO MAKE INFUSED LIQUIDS

  1. Add 4 cups water with herbs/spice to pot, bring to boil then reduce to simmer for 15-30 mins.

  2. Remove pot from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely, then strain. Add infused liquid to blender at step 4.
